Streetwise Maps New Orleans
Description Streetwise Maps New Orleans
New Orleans, the Big Easy, as it’s called has had anything but an easy time of it in recent years. While the city is still a bit down, it is by no means out. Hurricane Katrina roared through leaving little in her wake that is salvageable in some parts of the city and left other areas relatively unscathed.
While a visit at this time may seem like a farfetched idea, in fact the city could use your company. The French quarter escaped the flooding that decimated the Ninth Ward and tourism is already back to about half of what it was in previous times. Life goes on; beignets and chicory coffee are still being served at Café du Monde, jazz still shimmies out into the night from various venues and you can still get a go-cup for your Hurricane from Pat O’Briens.
New Orleans, Louisiana is home to a fine zoo that prepared well and sustained minimal structural damage during the storm, although there were plenty of trees and greenery destroyed, some of which ended up as food for the animals after the storm. The animals all survived, with the exception of two otters and a raccoon.
Anticipation on both sides of the fence accompanied the reopening of the zoo in November. Record crowds surged through the gates ready to embrace this emotional step in rebuilding.
